The Solstice is a time for introspection as the energies of the West direction on the Medicine Wheel come into play. On the darkest night of the year ancient cultures gave thanks for the Sun which promises a continuation of the cycle of death and rebirth. It’s a time for feasting, forgiveness , evergreens and white candles signifying the ‘Return of Light’. Around 1600 years ago the Winter Solstice was overlaid with Christmas, and the observance of Christmas spread throughout the globe. Along the way, we lost some of the deep connection of our celebrations to a fundamental seasonal, hemispheric event. This is not about replacing other rituals but of including all as having importance. The local Native Elders many years ago imparted some of their Wisdom to me and one of the gifts was the heartbeat of the Mother via the Drum.

It is from this point the Circle grew to accommodate and honor many other traditions in our gatherings including Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza and any others that people bring to share on this evening of Sacred Unity. This night is a circle of trust, a prayer, a dance, a song, and a time to remember those who came before us, the 7 generations unborn and our ancestors.. especially the ones still alive in the local neighborhoods of our Nevada Homeland.
